First Edition of the QueerCine International Film Festival, an Instant Hit


Past week marked the inaugural edition of the QueerCine International Film Festival, a new annual event that showcases independent queer cinema from Belgium and around the globe. The first edition proved to be very successful, unifying the love for cinema and the commitment to amplifying diverse voices.


Festival director and curator Lion Lamour comments: “It was truly inspiring to witness the substantial turnout, reaffirming the festival's significance. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response from numerous attendees, I eagerly anticipate the prospect of orchestrating a second edition. I am eager to commence the process of curating fresh additions to the lineup.”


The jury panel chose to award the following films as winners of the 2024 edition:


Best Narrative Feature Film

Best Narrative Short Film

Best New Voice

I Love You Don't Leave Me (USA) by Alex Leombruno


Best Documentary Short Film

Best Experimental Film

After Bed (United States) by TT Takemoto


Best Underground Film

A Body Like Mine (Germany) by Maja Classen & Puck


Best Super Short Film

Fragments (United Kingdom) by Mélodie Roulaud    


Best Poetry Film

Elegy (Belgium) by Jérémy Adonis


Best Dance Film

Circle (United States) by Phillip Kaminiak


Best Music Video

Bellydance Vogue (Lebanon) by Hadi Moussally
