Toronto Film Week Announces Award Winners Of Comeback Edition

Apr 11, 2023 - After a five-year hiatus, the Toronto Film Week was back last week with an eclectic line-up of indie films, and it is here to stay. Festival host and manager Maarten Cornelis was more than pleased with the comeback edition: "Toronto Film Week is back and we at Cinematory are so happy to be the new managers of this amazing event. This was its first edition since 2017 and what a sold out edition it was! We couldn't have been more happy with the turnout and the excitement for our 2023 selection. We are delighted to call the Fox Theatre our festival home and we'll be back next year for another free event filled with amazing films from across the world."


Chosen out of almost 1500 entries, this year's official selection featured 33 films from around the world. Toronto Film Week is pleased to share with you today the jury results for the 2023 awards:

Best Experimental Film: The Dream Machine (France) by Michael William West

Best Underground Film: The Pleasure in Pain (UK) by Curtis Blair

Best LGBTQ+ Film: Third Body (Israel) by Zohar Melinek Ezra, Roey Victoria Heifetz

Best New Filmmaker: I Never Had Dreams of My Son (Ukraine) by Jason Blevins

Best Music Video: The Beatles Vs The Stones (UK) by Andrew Kelleher (Dog&Rabbit)


Best Super Short Film: Generation (UK) by Riccardo Fusetti


Best Canadian Film: Heroes (Canada) by Andy Nguyen
